The client is the premier centre of excellence for cardiovascular care in the English-Speaking Caribbean. The client is the only dedicated full-service Specialty Heart Hospital in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. It provides comprehensive and sophisticated diagnosis and management of all forms of heart diseases and has multiple locations and several heart stations situated across Jamaica to improve access to care to all Jamaicans. Job Overview:
Scope of Work
• Patient Care:
○ Prepare patients for nuclear medicine procedures, including explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
○ Verify patient identity and review medical history and referral information.
• Imaging Procedures:
○ Perform nuclear medicine imaging procedures, including myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), stress test, cardiac PET/CT, single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), multigated acquisition (MUGA) scan, radionuclide angiography (RNA), and other specialized cardiac studies.
○ Administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients, ensuring correct dosage and adherence to safety protocols.
○ Operate imaging equipment and ensure high-quality diagnostic images are produced.
• Specific Radiopharmaceuticals-related Tasks:
○ Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate those to be administered by radiologists.
○ Execute blood volume, red cell survival, and fat absorption studies following standard laboratory techniques.
○ Calculate, prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals including radioactive iodine or radiation orally or intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment, under direction of physician.
○ Prepare and maintain a comprehensive procedures and workflow manual and records/log book of all procedures performed in the Nuclear Labs.
○ Detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients’ bodies, using a camera to produce photographic or computer images.
○ Produce a computer-generated or film image for interpretation by a physician.
○ Calculate, measure and record radiation dosage or radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed, using computer and following physicians' prescription.
○ Perform quality control checks on laboratory equipment and cameras.
○ Dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals, following radiation safety procedures.
○ Prepare stock radiopharmaceuticals, adhering to safety standards that minimize radiation exposure to workers and patients.
• Data Management:
○ Maintain accurate patient records, including documenting procedures, radiopharmaceuticals used, and any adverse reactions.
○ Collaborate with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to interpret images and provide comprehensive diagnostic information.
• Safety and Compliance:
○ Adhere to all Client's policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to radiation safety and patient care.
○ Perform regular quality control checks on equipment and report any malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Continuing Education and Training:
○ Stay current with advances in nuclear medicine technology and cardiac imaging techniques.
○ Participate in continuing education opportunities and departmental training sessions.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Proficiency in English is non-negotiable.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or related field from an accredited institution.
• Certification by a Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board or a Registry of Radiologic Technologists
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technician, preferably with a focus or specific experience on cardiac imaging.
• Experience in a hospital or clinical setting.
• Proficiency in operating nuclear medicine and PET/CT imaging equipment.
• Strong understanding of radiopharmaceuticals and their safe administration.
• Excellent patient care and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Position Details:
• Full-time permanent position
• Based in Mandeville
• Starting date to be negotiated (as soon as possible)
Salary:
USD 48,000 to 54,000 gross per annum equivalent depending on experience, paid in local currency plus productivity.
